Lawyers like me are trained to avoid emotionality at all costs. In fact, the entire project of the law is to strip from thelegal dispute everything that makes it particular, multi-dimensional, textured, personal and emotional.

Does the litigator affect the spirits of the client? You betcha. In fact, the litigator frames the dispute as a war in which the opponent is the enemy and the client the victim. When things go wrong, it’s the rare attorney who can step up to the line and admit error. Usually, we blame it on the Judge. Or the arbitrator. Or the mediator.
