MANILA, Philippines — The House Committee on Justice has come up with a list of names of lawmakers who will be sitting in the prosecution panel for the impeachment of Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona.
Iloilo Rep. Niel Tupas Jr., committee chairman, said the list will be formalized and will be recommended to the plenary for deliberations on Wednesday.
Being the House panel’s chairman, Tupas will sit in the 11-man prosecution panel from the House of Representatives. Included in the list are Deputy Speaker and Quezon Rep. Erin Tañada, Deputy Speaker and Northern Samar Rep. Raul Daza, Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas, Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr., Mindoro Oriental Rep. Reynaldo Umali, Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Neri Colmenares, and Akbayan party-list Rep. Kaka Bag-ao. These are the same names that were recommended to be part of the prosecution panel for the impeachment of resigned Ombudsman Ma. Merceditas Gutierrez.
