A total of 144 illegal aliens, most of them Chinese nationals, have been deported this year and banned from returning to the country, government records show.
Of the total number, 53 were Chinese, 18 were Americans, 17 were Indians, 15 were Koreans, and 10 were Taiwanese, said Ricardo David Jr., commissioner of the Bureau of Immigration, citing records.
Also deported were seven Japanese nationals, seven Nigerians, three Germans, two Bangladeshis, two Africans, a Briton, an Australian, a French national, a Malaysian, a Singaporean, a Slovenian, a Norwegian, a Spaniard, a Syrian, and a Vietnamese.
David said they were expelled pursuant to deportation orders issued by the bureau’s board of commissioners for violation immigration laws.
Among those deported were fugitives from justice who were arrested while hiding in the country to evade prosecution for crimes committed in their homeland, David said.
David said he instructed the bureau’s legal and jail officials to facilitate the immediate deportation of foreign detainees once their cases are resolved. However, the BI cannot deport a foreign detainee unless the necessary clearances are secured from court, police and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Meanwhile, there were 89 foreigners detained at the Bicutan jail as of Dec. 19, most of whom could not be deported yet due to cases pending against them before the local courts. — KBK, GMA News."
