MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III has appointed Assistant Solicitor General Amparo M. Cabotaje-Tang as Associate Justice of the Sandiganbayan, replacing Francisco H. Villaruz, who was appointed last year as Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice, MalacaƱang announced on Wednesday, July 11.
Aquino signed the appointment paper of Cabotaje-Tang on June 11, according to documents released by the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) through Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte.
A briefer on Cabotaje-Tang from the OES said that she received 7 votes from the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), which vets nominees for judicial posts and the Office of the Ombudsman.
Cabotaje-Tang, 57, began his career as a clerk in the Insurance Commission in 1979, then moved to become a legal assistant at the Supreme Court from 1980 to 1982.
She first served the Office of the Solicitor General as a trial attorney in 1982, then worked her way to become the most senior Assistant Solicitor General.

She has been a part-time faculty at the San Beda College of Law since 2006, and at the University of Santo Tomas since 2010.
Cabotaje-Tang, who hails from Cagayan, obtained her political science degree from the Manuel L. Quezon University in 1975, and her Bachelor of Laws from San Beda College, where she was among the top 10 students of her class in 1979.
