Corona morally unfit for the SC

Corona morally unfit for the SC

‘Judgment or a verdict is not essentially based on evidence accepted or rejected by the court. It is based on the politics of the senator judges.’
WHEN a justice of the Supreme Court pokes a gun on the temple of the 90-year old uncle of his wife over the issue of money, such a man would never realize that he probably needs psychiatric help.
When that same man sits it out in court or wanders outside of the courtroom while his wife is prosecuting a libel case against her own relatives, the man’s presence invites fear on the part of the judge hearing the case.
When this man who was appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court through a midnight appointment solicits invitations to talk about the law instead of keeping to his chamber or at home to prepare dissents or ponencia, he becomes morally unfit to become a member of the Court.
When this man allows a daughter to bid for the property of his wife to satisfy a court-ordered obligation of P500,000 in damages from a libel suit, for a measly amount of P28,000 although a portion of the property was sold to the City of Manila for P34 million under a negotiated sale that did not have authority from either of the contracting parties, the man becomes unfit for himself, for his wife, his children but most importantly to the family of the wife who is said to have been “robbed” of the wealth but not having political influence, resorted to the ultimate lesson of praying that God forgive them for their sins, the man becomes an unfit lawyer and father.
When a man claims many academic honors, the highest of which, a doctorate in law he did not exactly earn because he did not make a dissertation, the man becomes a glory seeker. It did not occur to him that if there is any school of law that should give him the honor – honoris causa or earned – it should be his own Ateneo Law School.
This, among many ways, is how we characterize Chief Justice Renato Corona. Morally unfit for himself, for his family and cannot be fit as Head Magistrate of the Supreme Court.
The law requires preponderance of evidence to convict an impeached Chief Justice. There is a bill of goods the Chief Justice has to completely demolish if he hopes to avoid being convicted.
