CHICAGO – Filipino-American lawyer Manny Aguja and his identical twin brother Marc were sentenced to jail for conspiring to commit marriage fraud in Chicago on Wednesday.
Manny, an immigration lawyer based in Chicago, was sentenced to two years imprisonment and a US$10,000 fine. Marc was sentenced to a one-year and one-day jail term, with a US$10,000 fine, for conspiring and assisting in fake marriages of undocumented immigrants to get green cards.
The Aguja twins have 30 days to appeal their sentences.
Without appeal, Manny Aguja will start serving his jail sentence on May 1. Marc Aguja will start his sentence on May 15.
