The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), together with all its agencies and major partners, marked a significant justice reform milestone with the signing of agreement on the National Justice Information System (NJIS) on May 28.

The NJIS, a priority project of the Aquino administration, will establish an integrated and accessible criminal justice information platform to improve the speed and efficiency of justice processes. It will adopt a data exchange mechanism across agencies, departments and branches.
This project will be implemented through the following three clusters in the justice system:
1) Corrections Cluster,
2) Law Enforcement, Prosecution and Defense Cluster, and
3) Legal Service

“I commend the whole NJIS team for their dedication and hardwork to realize our common vision of a functioning justice system,” said DOJ secretary Leila M. De Lima. “It took four years from project concept to today with everyone on board,” she said.
“Sa NJIS, wala na pong kanya-kanya, sila-sila at kami-kami. Pagpuksa ng kriminalidad, dapat lahat ng ahensya ay nag-uusapusap, nagtutulungan at may malakas na coordination,” said DILG undersecretary Edwin R. Enrile.
Assistant Secretary Geronimo Sy, chief information officer of the DOJ, said that “This will transform how we manage the justice system through big data. It is a first in the country’s history for us to set up such an IT-based project that will have an impact on criminal justice stakeholders.”
Among the participating agencies are: Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Board of Pardons and Parole (BPP), Parole and Probation Administration (PPA), Bureau of Immigration (BI), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), National Prosecution Service (NPS) Office of the Solicitor General (OSG), DOJ-Legal Staff, Office of the Government Corporate Counsel (OGCC), Land Registration Authority (LRA) and the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG).
