I treat Manny/Cynthia Villar as friends in Las Pinas City because we had collaborated on justice issues in the past. But on the issue of political dynasty, I categorically beg to disagree with them, with all due respect.
The common retorts of beneficiaries of feudal political dynasties are: let the people decide during the election, corruption is the issue (not dynasties), let the merits of the candidates prevail, it's normal for children to follow the career path of their parents, and the like.
The people had expressly spoken when they ratified the 1987 Constitution: political dynasties are anathema to genuine democracy; and the basic law of the land commands Congress to pass an anti-dynasty law (which to this very day the pork-barrel-infested and oligarchic Congress has insultingly ignored).
No amount of empty rationalization by vested interests will change the fact that political dynasties are malignant and deadly tumors that gradually suffocate and kill the spirit and substance of republicanism and democracy in this country.
