‘SC justices have violated public trust’–Fariñas | Newsbreak | Independent Journalism

Rep. F. C. Farinas, Ilocos Norte:

"Mr. Speaker, with due respect to the Supreme Court, I feel and I believe that they have committed—the members who voted to issue a status quo ante order against this House without even reading the petition— [they] have violated public trust.

I will soon review the matter and will initiate impeachment proceedings against members of the Supreme Court who voted to issue a status quo ante order without reading the contents of the petition.

May I remind the honorable members of the Supreme Court that Richard Nixon was impeached by the House of Representatives of the United States Congress and resigned from office not because he had any participation in the Watergate scandal. He was impeached and he ultimately resigned from office because of the cover-up of the Watergate scandal.

I beg the Supreme Court to leave the records of their proceedings intact, and we will see who among the members of the Supreme Court voted to issue the status quo ante order without having received the copy of the petition by Gutierrez, and if so, Mr. Speaker, I am stating that I am reserving my right to initiate or to file an impeachment complaint against these honorable members of the Supreme Court.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker."
